Workshop 1

solar energy

Chair: Mike Green

Wednesday | 8.11 | 10:00

Herods Boutique, Queens

Summary

Due to the volatile photovoltaic market in the State of Israel since the beginning of the first arrangements, the unique engineering required for the design, construction and maintenance of photovoltaic systems has not developed a significant awareness among the country's electrical engineers. Due to the common concept of "EPC" which gives the contractor the right to design the system he builds, sometimes the lack of concept of quality assurance in general in the construction industries in the country and instability in regulation, no expertise has developed in this area.

This workshop highlights the important issues in the design, construction and maintenance of photovoltaic systems connected to the low-voltage distribution network and intermediate voltage according to the accumulated experience from the first series in the State of Israel, activity in international committees and large projects around the world.

introduction

Mike Green will give an overview of the various roles that an electrical engineer should play in the life cycle of a solar power plant, from the design phase including connection to the power grid at different voltage levels, emphases on monitoring design, and other important matters to generalize technical specifications, to handling customer complaints. To the customer

Handling of the power factor in photovoltaic systems connected to the network:

Zohar Weinbaum will explain how the facility can be designed so that a solution is obtained for correcting the power factor in all work situations and without deteriorating the quality of electricity in the facility.

When producing solar with an emphasis on a net meter arrangement, the consumer will consume the active power that his solar system produces and the rack power he will draw from the grid. Converters manufacturers usually make it possible to control the angle between the voltage and current generated, which makes it possible to produce a maximum active power of a given size of a converter whose size is defined according to its imaginary power.

Understanding the meaning of photovoltaic imaging:

Edward Rabin will explain how a photovoltaic energy expert works with solar field imaging software and the significance of various situations affecting system output. Photovoltaic energy is decreasing its production cost compared to the cost of producing fossil energy, which requires maximum production efficiency. The efficiency of a photovoltaic system is determined when planning the location of the panels, their division into strings and converters. We are in an age where every percentage missed at the planning stage greatly affects profitability and fault identification and treatment.

Zohar Weinbaum

Zohar is the owner of Weinbaum Electrical Engineering, which specializes in consulting and designing solutions for improving the quality of electricity at the factory or machine level, with an emphasis on systems for measuring electrical network parameters and energy stock, passive filters and power factor correction using static systems. Also promotions  Technical due diligence for energy-saving products.

Zohar is a consultant to the Electricity Authority on the subject of electrical quality, a member of the engineering session of the Association of Electrical Engineers, a lecturer on electrical quality and correction of the power factor on their various aspects at conferences and seminars of the Association of Electrical Engineers.

Mike Green

Mike is the owner of Am. G. Lightning Introduces the State of Israel in IEA-PVPS Task 13 which studies the reliability and efficiency of photovoltaic systems and produces books on the recommended methods for the developer, build and maintain photovoltaic systems. The company designs systems for contracting companies, advises entrepreneurs, manages fields and roofs in Israel and abroad, writes reports to the court and develops algorithms for monitoring and predicting systems production in cooperation with academic institutions in Israel and abroad, partially funded by the Ministry of Energy.

Edward Rabin

Edward has many years of experience in designing photovoltaic systems as the chief engineer of Am. G. Lightning. As part of his work, he advised companies in Israel and around the world in the design and implementation of PV systems, built thousands of complex simulations for solar systems  Using different technologies of panels and converters, while integrating the system into the distribution network at low, medium or high voltage.  Today Edward works as a low voltage characterization engineer at Schneider Electric .
