Water Flow Control Varies in the Primary and Secondary Water Cycles  - VPF Systems

Abstract

The energy consumption of ancillary components in air conditioning systems (pumping, ventilation, etc) can no longer be neglected in the approach to NZEB design. Consumption must be balanced with energy production from renewable sources on site or nearby, so the new “equivalent photovoltaic surfaces” parameter becomes a fundamental indicator when comparing the different solutions. Cooling systems with VPF (Variable Primary Flow), ideal for medium to large cooling capacities, represent an interesting alternative to the traditional constant flow systems. The solution introduced by RHOSS offers benefits such as reduced energy consumption of the pumping groups with consistent cost savings, combined with reliability and simplified system management. Using these systems significantly helps the building to achieve a better score in the LEED certification.

Oil-Flooded Screw Compressor Systems for Power Generation Process Gas Compression and Refrigeration Applications

Abstract

BACKGROUND

Since the early seventies, the author has been involved in designing, building and starting over 500 systems involving oil-flooded screw compressors. To his credit, he has the unique privilege of supplying the largest single oil-flooded screw compressor system in the world. The system has been in operation for over 10 years in a major oil refinery without any problems.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this presentation is to prove to the technical decision makers at large that if an oil-flooded screw compressor system is designed correctly for a gas turbine power plant application, it is the most suitable compressor for the fuel gas boosting among all available options .

The above conclusion is based on intimate knowledge the author has acquired over the years through extensive hands-on experience and advancements made in the oil management and operation of screw compressors. This know-how is an intellectual property and this body of knowledge far exceeds the know-how possessed and acquired by manufacturers of screw compressor proper itself.

Starting with the fundamentals of oil-flooded screw compressors and covering case studies of process gas compression and special refrigeration applications, emphasis is primarily placed on Fuel Gas Boosting (FGB) applications in the power generation field.

The informative paper is concluded with details of Finite Oil Removal Systems, MTBF and MTTR studies conducted at a facility where 41 oil-flooded screw compressors were in operation for over 25 years. Such statistical studies led to 99.5% availability becoming an industrial norm for an oil-flooded screw compressor

Summary

Designing a serial structure of water refrigerators in condensate water, and in counter-flow water (Series Counterflow Operation) leads to a result that requires less energy consumption than designing water refrigerators at the same time. At full output and partial output, increases significantly.

The lecture will deal with the design principles and parameters that lead to an increase in the energy efficiency of the engine room facility.
